The 2024 Goliath Starts at the Grosvenor G Casino in Coventry on July 27th

The Grosvenor Casinos flagship live poker event, the Goliath, begins soon at the Grosvenor G Casino in Coventry, UK. This is the 12th edition of the Goliath, a gargantuan low buy-in large field poker tournament, which was first run in 2011, as an addition to the already successful Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) which the casino chain still runs in 2024.

Last year’s Goliath has 11,493 entries, once again breaking its own record for the biggest poker event to have ever taken place outside Las Vegas. It was won by Alex Todd, who took home £176,860 for an outlay of £150.

This year the buy-in has been increased from £150 (£120+£30 fee) to £200 (£160+£40 fee), which casts some doubt on whether the total number of entries will grow this year, or not, but the prize pool should certainly be the biggest in the history of the event, which is expected to exceed £1.5m.

The £200 Main Event runs throughout the entire festival, with multiple starting days.

The Joker’s Wild is a Goliath favourite, hosted in costume by Phil ‘The Tower’ Heald’s alter ego, The Joker. Recent WSOP Hall of Fame inductee Patrick Antonius was once interviewed by Phil at the Goliath, while he was in his Joker outfit. Funnily enough, when Phil bumped into Patrick in Las Vegas the following year the Hall of Famer had no idea who he was out-of-costume.

Satellites are still running at Grosvenor Poker, with players of the online poker site able to use Live Event Credit to enter the Goliath. Live Event Credit can be won in a variety of daily online satellites at Grosvenor Poker and various buy-in levels.
