WPT Global’s $8.5m Guaranteed Fall Festival Introduces Mystery Bounty Format

The newly launched Mystery Bounty tournaments on WPT Global offer a variation on the traditional bounty format. In this format, the amount of each bounty remains a mystery until after a player is eliminated. 

The format is structured in the usual mystery bounty way with bounties only awarded once players have reached the prize money. When a bounty is won, a chest is opened revealing the prize for the player who scored the elimination. 

This format has already shown early signs of popularity; for example, the $55 Lucky PKO $30,000 GTD tournament saw a record 771 entries after it was converted to the Mystery Bounty format. This represented an increase of 20% on the previous attendance record for this particular tournament.

WPT Global has also introduced a pop-out feature that allows players to track the distribution of bounties during the tournament.

Alongside this new tournament format, WPT Global has introduced new final table animations and themes.

WPT Global has now confirmed the total guarantees for its Fall Festival will be $8.5m. This is half a million more than the $8m in guarantees which the site had for its recent Summer Festival, which generated over $1m in overlay.

It’s worth remembering that WPT Global initially set the guarantees for the Summer Festival at $7m, but upped it to $8m a few days after making the original announcement.

$8.5m is also a really horrible number, so spare us the wait and just up it to $9m now, as we think you might be planning to do this anyway.

The increased attendance in the recent mystery bounties will surely give CEO Alex Scott the confidence to make this call before the weekend begins.

WPT Global has not released the full tournament schedule yet, but has confirmed The Fall Festival will include a variety of events with significant prize pools, with Mystery Bounty featuring heavily in the schedule alongside live versions of World Poker Tour events.

The WPT Championship and the WPT Prime Championship both failed to meet their identical guanatees during the Summer Festival, with the Prime event overlaying by $115,000. There could be more value on offer this time round, even if WPT Global doesn't bump up the overall guarantees to $9m.
