    The Inflation of Guarantees

Tournament poker is currently in an era of "Guarantee Inflation."
Operators use massive headline numbers ranging from $10 Million GTD to $100 Million Series as marketing hooks. However, the news story isn't the number; it's the structure required to hit it.

To minimize the risk of overlays (where the operator has to pay the difference), structures have become faster, late registration periods have been extended (sometimes allowing entry with 10 big blinds), and re-entry options are unlimited. We analyze whether a tournament is a genuine value proposition or a "rake trap" designed to churn bankrolls through unlimited re-buys.

    The "Mystery Bounty" Revolution

The most significant format change in recent years is the Mystery Bounty.
By sequestering a portion of the prize pool into random draws, operators have successfully attracted recreational players who want a shot at a "jackpot" without needing to make the final table.

For the serious player, this changes the math entirely. Reporting now focuses on the "Bounty Equity" knowing when to gamble for a bounty vs. playing for the tournament life.
We cover how different operators (WSOP vs. Triton vs. online rooms) structure these bounties, as the variance implications are massive.

A dream event for the grassroot players - being part of the Triton Poker Series, a High Roller live event series

Flagship Series: The Barometer of Health

Coverage of the WSOP (World Series of Poker), EPT (European Poker Tour), and Triton Series goes beyond who lifted the trophy. These festivals are the stress tests for the poker economy.
    • Attendance Trends: Are numbers up because of unique players, or just more re-entries?
    • Buy-in Compression: We are seeing a polarization, super high rollers ($25k+) are booming, and low stakes are booming, but the classic $5k-$10k freezeout is becoming a rarity.
    • Overlay Alerts: When a major Sunday Million or GGMasters overlays, it signals a liquidity drop. We track these as early warning signs of market contraction.

Don’t look at the Guarantee. Look at the Late Reg clock. If they are letting people buy in for 15bb three hours into Day 2, it’s not a tournament; it’s a lottery with a rake. That’s what we look for in the fine print.

    The Online-Live Hybrid

The line between online and live is blurring.
"OnLive" flights (playing Day 1 online and Day 2 live) are becoming standard for tours like the WSOP and WPT.

This lowers travel costs for pros but changes the field dynamic of the live Day 2. We report on how these hybrid fields play differently as online qualifiers tend to be more aggressive and mathematically sound than the local live qualifiers.
