WPT Australia 2026
WPT Australia returned to Sydney with two major titles on the schedule, but by the final afternoon just one name separated itself from the rest.

Alex Thompson entered the six-handed WPT Australia Championship final table with the chip lead and never cared all that much to give it back, turning a breakout week at The Star Sydney into A$450,900, his first WPT title and a place on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.

Here is a rundown of the 2026 World Poker Tour in Australia.

Thompson Controls the WPT Australia Main Event

Thompson began the final table with 8.615 million chips, around 144 big blinds, holding more than two million chips more than Filip Radic in second.

Ryan Henry was first out in sixth after losing to Radic, but Thompson handled most of the eliminations from there. Tingjia Huang paid off Thompson’s queen-high straight in one of the biggest pots of the day before exiting fifth, while Jack Sweet followed when his ace-four failed to improve against Thompson’s pocket nines.

Pranav Bhatt was the last player standing between the two leaders. His ace-queen went in against Thompson’s five-four, but a four on the flop gave Thompson the winning pair and sent Bhatt out in third.
That left Thompson and Radic heads-up, with Thompson still holding the advantage.

The final hand came when Radic shoved roughly three million with six-five suited. Thompson called with jack-ten and stayed ahead despite Radic flopping an open-ended straight draw. Neither the turn nor river completed it, confirming Thompson as the 2026 WPT Australia champion.

Feltham Comes Back From 17 Big Blinds to Win WPT Prime

The other major title of the festival went to Cooper Feltham in the A$1,500 WPT Prime Australia Championship.

Feltham entered the final table sixth in chips with only 17 big blinds but turned the short stack into a championship run. The event attracted 1,036 entries and created a A$1,346,800 prize pool.

His route included a king-high hero call against Ling Liu and a crucial pocket-jacks-versus-ace-queen flip that moved him into the lead. Liu later fought back from a huge heads-up deficit and briefly took control before the pair agreed a deal.

Feltham eventually won with ace-two against Liu’s ace-seven after completing a five-high straight on the river.

At the end of the day, this Sydney return produced two very different winners: Feltham surviving from a short stack and Thompson spending most of the final day in control. The latter walked away with the biggest title of the festival and, by some distance, the biggest result of his career.
