What is Rake?

Rake as a small service fee that the online poker room takes for organising the games. It's similar to a booking fee for a concert or a service charge at a restaurant, because unlike other casino games, in poker players do not compete against the house. Poker is a peer to peer game, therefore the casino makes its money by charging rake on each hand (in cash games) rather than by winning money from the players. In online poker cash games, the rake is equivalent to a small percentage of the total pot and is removed before the pot is awarded to the winner of the hand.

There are situations where no rake is deducted from the pot, such as when the pot ends before the flop, as many sites employ a ‘no flop, no drop’ rule.

In tournament poker, a fee is charged (usually around 10% of the tournament buy-in) rather than each pot being raked.

GGPoker Rake Structure and Fees Policy

As the operator of the game, GG Poker applies this commission based rake to each pot at its cash game tables. GG poker only charges rake on pots that end preflop when there was a 3-bet involved. The amount of rake deducted from GG Poker cash games is a set percentage of the pot, but is subject to a cap, being the maximum amount that will be deducted from each pot.

The size of the cap is dependent on the stakes being played for and the number of players dealt into the hand.

There are different rake structures for 6-max and 9-max cash game tables and also for different game formats. For example the rake structure for Pot Limit Omaha games is different to the rake structure for Hold'em games.

GGPoker Rush & Cash Rake

For all GG Poker Rush and Cash tables, the rake is 5% with a 3BB (3 big blinds) cap.

Is Rake Competitive at GG Poker?

At 5%, rake at GG Poker is in-line with industry standards. At lower and micro stakes GG Poker has lower rake than many other sites, however at higher stakes tables, the rake caps are bigger than at most other online poker sites.

Tournament fees at GG Poker are slightly less than on most other major sites. For example, on most online poker sites the fee for a $50 mttt is usually $5 (10%) however GG Poker charges just $4 (8%). T

What is Rakeback?

Rakeback is a method of rewarding players at online poker sites. Rakeback refers to cash that is returned to players based on how much they have played in the preceding week or month. Rakeback is described in percentage terms, for example, 50% rakeback means that a player will receive 50% of the rake that they paid back as a bonus. Not all sites offer rakeback, as some have player loyalty programs with alternative methods of rewarding regular and loyal customers.

How to get Rakeback at GG Poker

Rakeback at GG Poker is paid weekly and is incorporated into the site’s Fish Buffet promotion. The percentage of rakeback received depends on the ranking (VIP level) achieved. The highest achievable rank of the Fish Buffet promotion is GG Platinum, for which players receive 60% of the rake and fees they spent back as a cash bonus. The ranking assigned to each player within the Fish Buffet promotion is determined by the number of Fish Buffet Points collected. These points are awarded for every tournament or rake generating cash game hand played.

At the end of each week, players can click on 'My Promo' to see how much they have earned and collect their reward.
