Could the Crown Poker Series Signal Return of the Aussie Millions
Could the Crown Poker Series Pave The Way for the Return of the Aussie Millions?
Crown Casino Melbourne, who were the operators of the Aussie Millions, have not run a live poker festival since October 2020 and had publicly stated that the vast country’s most historic and iconic poker tournament was being shelved indefinitely.

This was sad news to both Australian and traveling poker players, as the Aussie Millions had been one of the highlights of the international poker circuit, with players from all over the world flocking to Melbourne to enjoy the poker and also the tennis, as it was timed to coincide with the Australian Open each year.

For the last few months however there has been a rumour that the event might return in the future and that rumour looks a lot stronger now that Crown Casino has indeed scheduled its first live poker festival in nearly four years. It might not be in time for an Aussie Millions 2024, but next year is looking like a distinct possibility.

May 2024 Update

In late April, the chances of a 2025 return for the Aussie Millions took a severe hit as Crown Casinos announced over 1,000 redundancies, many of which are impacting the group's Melbourne property, which has yet to return to re-pandemic business levels, due to the loss of many foriegn high rollers, who are yet to return.

This news makes a 2025 return for the Aussie Millions much less likely than it had seemed earlier in 2024.

The Crown Poker Series 2024

The event they are staging is the the Crown Poker Series, which runs from the 2-7 April, 2024 with a A$1,500 main event taking place at the end of the festival, over the weekend of 6-7 April. The festival’s four side events includes a Pot Limit Omaha tournament as well as a three further No Limit Hold’em competitions.

There are also several satellites to the main event taking place on the opening few days of the festival. These cost A$250+50 to enter and award one seat into the A$1,500 for every six entrants.

If this return festival is a success, perhaps the Aussie Millions 2025 could become more than just a rumour. Januarys just haven’t been the same since the event was cancelled and it would delight the poker world if it were to return next year.
