GG Poker Runs $10m Guaranteed Omaholic Series in April

Earlier this week GG Poker announced the return of their World Poker Festival in May with a record extending $250m in guarantees. But before that begins, there’s another tournament series taking place in April oh the world’s biggest poker site.

The Omaholic Series begins on Sunday 14th April and continues until the 29th of the month, carrying $10m in guarantees with an extremely extensive tournament schedule featuring over 380 events. 

Tournament buy-ins during the series range from just $20 for the cheapest and most accessible events up to$10,300 for the super high roller events on the schedule. All events have guaranteed prize pools ranging from $5,000 to $1m, which when combined add up to $10m. 

The main event is the $1m Mystery Bounty, which is one of the flagship phase events and has its final stage on Monday April 29th, but has day 1s running throughout the festival, costing $210 to enter. 

There is also a leaderboard with $100,000 in prizes for the best performers throughout the series.

The format of the events is in the title of the series, Omaholic, but what is that?  Omaholic is an Omaha variant that has a unique betting structure, which starts as Pot Limit in the pre-flop stage, but changes to being no limit post-flop. All of the tournaments in the Omaholic Series use this betting structure format.

Oh yeah, so what’s Omaha then, I hear you say?

Omaha is a poker variant, which differs from Hold’em in that players receive four cards (or five in some versions of Omaha poker) instead of two. The betting streets are the same as in Hold’em with the initial deal, the flop, turn and finally river, however there is one crucial difference. 

While in Hold’em players can use any five card combination from their hole and the board to make their best five card poker hand, in Omaha, players must use exactly two of their hole cards and three board cards to construct their best poker hand.

Omaha is most commonly played as a pot limit game and many people know it simply as PLO (Pot Limit Omaha), however it can also be played with limit or no limit betting rules. Pot limit means that the maximum one can raise is the size of the current pot.
