Bitcoin Poker Site SwC announces return of March Madness Online Tournament Series
The annual March Madness tournament series is returning to Bitcoin poker site SwC, running from March 22nd until April 7th, with total combined guarantees of 3 BTC. Technically it isn’t all taking place in March, as the main event and other significant mtts on the 64-tournament series run during the first week of April. It’s also not entirely clear what’s so mad about it, but as poker series names go, it has a nice ring to it.
In addition to the 64-event schedule, there is also a series leaderboard with cash prizes (in Bitcoin obviously) for the top three finishers and tournament tickets of varying value for the top 10. Additionally, the top 64 players on the leaderboard gain entry into a two-day freeroll called The Big Dance.
The Schedule
Running for two weeks, including three weekends, the series features three tournaments on weekdays, with five on Saturdays and six on Sundays. The lowest buy-in tournaments cost 250 μBTC to enter with the main event priced at 5,000 μBTC. The biggest buy-in tournament on the March Madness schedule is the 15,000 μBTC 9-Game High Roller. Guarantees range from 10,000 μBTC for the smallest buy-in events to 300,000 μBTC for the main event.

How much are the buy-ins worth?
As the price of Bitcoin is unstable and fluctuates wildly, its not straightforward to convert the price of the buy-ins to fiat currency. All deposits into SwC are made using Bitcoin and these are converted to chips with each SwC chip worth 0.000001 BTC, which is also known as 1 bit, or 1 microBTC (μBTC). 1,000,000 chips is equal to 1 Bitcoin.
To calculate the equivalent cost of tournaments in the March Madness series, simply multiply the buy-in amount by the current price of 1μBTC. At the time of writing, 1 BTC = $65,000, therefore 1 microBTC (1μBTC) = $0.065.

Series Leaderboard
The March Madness Series also includes a leaderboard. All players who make the money in any of the tournaments receive points, which are calculated using a formula based on the buy-in, the size of the field and the finishing position achieved. There is also a 1.5x multiplier applied to leaderboard points for any players who register before the start of the tournament.
The top 10 players on the leaderboard at the end of the series win prizes (a mixture of cash and tournament tickets) and the top 64 gain entry to The Big Dance Freeroll.
The Big Dance Freeroll
With a prizepool of 20,000 μBTC, the Big Dance Freeroll takes place after the end of the festival and runs over two days. On the first day the players in positions 2-64 take part in a regular mtt, which stops when there are 15 players left. On the second day these 15 survivors are joined by the leaderboard winner (who receives a bye into the second day). These Sweet 16 players will contest a heads-up tournament on day two to fight it out for the tbc prizepool.
