Jason Koon won a €1,000,000 winner-take-all Sit & Go at EPT Monte Carlo, defeating a field of elite high rollers. Simultaneously, the Main Event prize pool reached €4,903,350 as the money bubble burst, leaving 151 players chasing the top prize.
The European Poker Tour (EPT) Monte Carlo stop delivered a high-stakes spectacle this Wednesday as nine of the most elite players in the world competed in a specialized winner-take-all Sit & Go format.
Originally intended to be a streamed cash game, the participants requested a format change, leading PokerStars to pivot the event and even supplement the prize pool with an additional €100,000.
The lineup for the €100,000 buy-in event featured a formidable collection of high-stakes talent. The nine participants included:
- Jason Koon
- Stephen Chidwick
- Mikita Badziakouski
- Ben Tollerene
- Kayhan Mokri
- Daniel Dvoress
- Aleksejs Ponakovs
- Patrik Antonius
- Artur Martirosian
According to data compiled by Garry Gates, this specific group of players represents a combined $429,609,824 in career earnings. Because the format dictated that only the first-place finisher would receive the full €1,000,000 prize, standard ICM considerations were non-existent.
This structure allowed the competitors to play with maximum aggression, frequently targeting their opponents with high-pressure maneuvers. Ultimately, Jason Koon emerged as the sole victor to claim the seven-figure payout.
While the high-stakes Sit & Go concluded, the €5,300 buy-in EPT Monte Carlo Main Event reached a critical milestone. The tournament attracted 1,011 entries, resulting in a total prize pool of €4,903,350.
The second day of play ended with the elimination of Morgan Aceto on the money bubble. Aceto was forced all-in from the small blind for his final 1,000 chip. His J-6 was unable to overcome the K-K held by Fabian Berraboukha. Following his exit, the remaining 151 players were guaranteed at least €9,200, with the eventual champion set to take home €825,000.
Rodrigo Selouan of Brazil leads the remaining field into the third day of competition with a stack of 933,000. He is followed closely by Team PokerStars Pro Raul Mestre, who bagged 868,000. The hunt for the title remains competitive, as five former EPT Main Event champions are still in contention, including notable winners such as Thomas Eychenne, Ognyan Dimov, and Hossein Ensan.
