Day 9: Nine Players Reduced to Four
Play resumed following the three-week break with nine players still chasing the world championship.
Evagoras Evagorou was the first player eliminated, finishing ninth.
Former European Poker Tour champion Mario Boos followed in eighth place before cash game specialist Jamie Shaevel exited in seventh. Canadian Rami Hammoud completed an impressive run with a sixth-place finish.
Jumalon continued to use his commanding stack to dictate the pace, forcing opponents into difficult decisions while extending his advantage.
By the end of Day 9, only Lucas Jumalon, Greg Mueller, Michael Gagliano and Lauri Saaskilahti remained.
Day 10: Experienced Challengers Fall Short
The second day of the WSOP 2026 Main Event final table featured two accomplished bracelet winners attempting to halt Jumalon's progress.
Four-time WSOP bracelet winner Michael Gagliano was eliminated in fourth place after failing to build momentum against the chip leader.
Greg Mueller, a three-time bracelet winner, mounted the final challenge before finishing third.
His elimination created a heads-up showdown between Lucas Jumalon and Lauri Saaskilahti.
The meeting carried extra significance after the pair had joked earlier in the tournament that they hoped to face each other heads-up following their encounter on Day 5.
The Heads-Up Battle
Jumalon entered heads-up play with a substantial advantage and initially increased his lead through aggressive play and timely value betting.
Saaskilahti responded with a vital double-up when his A♦10♥ held against Jumalon's A♠9♣ after completing a flush on the river.
The hand briefly narrowed the gap and marked the first significant setback for the chip leader during the final table.
The momentum shifted again shortly afterwards. On a four-spade board, Jumalon made a large river bet holding the queen-high flush.
Saaskilahti, holding a pair of jacks, spent considerable time before making the call, believing Jumalon could be bluffing. Instead, he ran into the made flush and lost nearly his entire stack in the defining hand of the championship.
The Winning Hand
With fewer than ten big blinds remaining, Saaskilahti moved all in holding A♠7♦ against Jumalon's K♠6♦.
The flop delivered a six for Jumalon, while the turn paired the card to give him trips. The river did not improve Saaskilahti, ending the tournament.
Lucas Jumalon was crowned the 2026 WSOP Main Event champion, earning the gold bracelet and the $10 million first prize. Runner-up Lauri Saaskilahti collected $6 million.

Although Lauri Saaskilahti briefly closed the gap with a key double-up, the pivotal hero call swung the momentum back in Jumalon's favour before he completed a wire-to-wire victory to claim poker's biggest title.
