Antoine Degiorgio Charity Poker Tournament
Malta’s poker community is preparing to swap tournament results for a different kind of target, with Portomaso Casino set to host a charity event in support of Antoine Degiorgio.

The tournament will raise money towards Degiorgio’s ongoing rehabilitation after a heart attack in March left him with a brain injury. His family is seeking funding for the specialist care needed to continue the progress he has made over the past several months.

Portomaso Event Adds Prizes to the Fundraiser

The charity tournament will bring players together at Portomaso Casino, one of Malta’s most established live poker venues. The St Julian’s casino has hosted international poker events since 2008 and has previously welcomed tours and operators including PokerStars and Unibet.

Several poker and gaming companies have also contributed prizes to the event. The additional value includes:

Prize
Value
The Festival Series package for 2026/2027€1,600
Four TF Tallinn Chicago tickets€125 each
NBDP Coin Bundle€250
Betsson One Bullet Entry€250

The prizes sit alongside the main purpose of the tournament, with proceeds going towards Degiorgio’s rehabilitation and long-term care.

Degiorgio’s Family Targets a Year of Specialist Care

Degiorgio suffered a cardiac arrest on March 17, after which a lack of oxygen caused significant brain damage. Despite an initially severe prognosis, his family says he has since regained the ability to walk and speak in sentences.

The next challenge is finding a suitable long-term rehabilitation setup. His family has set a €85,000 fundraising target to cover one year of care, including live-in support, cognitive therapy and physical and neurological rehabilitation.

Degiorgio is well known within Malta poker as the founder of Malta Poker Fish and has been involved in the local scene for more than 15 years. He has also organized charity tournaments himself; an event he helped run last December raised €11,125 for Dar Bjorn.

The upcoming Portomaso tournament therefore turns a familiar setup around: a player who has regularly used poker to support other causes will now be at the center of one himself.
