2026 WSOP
If there is one universal truth about the World Series of Poker, it’s that the summer grind in Las Vegas is an absolute logistical marathon. Between the massive fields, the endless tournament variants, and the sheer length of the festival, keeping things running smoothly is a monumental task. But for years, the biggest complaint from players hasn't been about the structures or the food. It’s been about the inconsistency in the box.

Now, the WSOP is putting the power to grade the dealers directly into the hands of the players.

In a recent announcement on X, the WSOP revealed they are rolling out a brand-new Dealer Rating System for the 2026 series. It’s an unprecedented move for the brand, and it has the entire community buzzing. But what exactly did the WSOP team mean by this, and how is it actually going to function in a room full of tilted poker players?

Here is a breakdown of the new initiative and what players are saying about it.

The Scale of the Dealer Problem

To understand why the WSOP team implemented this, you have to look at the numbers. Every summer, the WSOP has to bring in roughly 1,000 dealers from all over the world just to handle the volume in Las Vegas. On the busiest days, there can be upwards of 600 tables running simultaneously.

Because it’s temporary, seasonal work, the talent pool is incredibly mixed. You have absolute seasoned veterans dealing alongside rookies who have barely pitched cards outside of a home game. This variance leads to critical mistakes, miscalculated pots, and painfully slow hands. The WSOP's goal with the new system is to crowdsource performance reviews to elevate the overall quality of play.

How the Rating System Works

The WSOP team made it clear that this isn't meant to be a public shaming tool. It's designed to incentivize the temporary staff to perform at their highest level.

  • The App Integration: Players will submit their ratings through the existing WSOP Live app, the same one they already use for registration and seating assignments.
  • The 1-to-5 Scale: Similar to an Uber or rideshare app, players simply rate the dealer currently at their table on a scale of 1 to 5.
  • Internal Routing: Crucially, these scores are completely hidden from the public. They are routed directly to the WSOP tournament staff.
  • The Incentives: Dealers who maintain high scores throughout the summer will be rewarded with financial bonuses. Additionally, the top-rated dealers will earn the right to deal the most prestigious and high-profile events, such as the televised Main Event final tables.

The Community Reacts: Brilliant or Crazy?

Players were incredibly fast to respond to the news, and the reactions have been split, to say the least.

On one side, seasoned pros are thrilled that the WSOP is finally taking actionable steps to fix a decades-old issue. Seven time WSOP gold bracelet winner Daniel Negreanu was quick to praise the move:

I love this idea. Show ❤️ to your favorite dealers!

However, others think it’s a completely crazy idea to let highly emotional poker players dictate a dealer's financial bonus. Players like Alex Duvall pointed to the fact that the new rating system is ignoring a much bigger issue when it comes to dealers at the WSOP:

I don’t see much purpose in this. Every year, a large % of the dealers at the WSOP don’t know what they are doing. It’s even their first time ever. Just train them better!

Whether this fixes the dealer shortage issues or creates a logistical nightmare for the tournament directors remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: every hand at the 2026 WSOP is going to be heavily scrutinized from the moment the cards are in the air.
