Redemption Complete: Alvaro Murciano Wins the 2026 888poker LIVE Barcelona Main Event

There are few things sweeter in tournament poker than securing personal redemption on a massive stage. A year after suffering a heartbreaking runner-up finish in Madrid, Spanish professional Alvaro Murciano completed his revenge tour in spectacular fashion this week. 

Dominating a 350-entry field, the online grinder captured the €888 buy-in 888poker LIVE Barcelona Main Event title, lifting the gold-plated trophy and securing the €50,000 top prize at Casino Barcelona.

For Murciano, the victory was the culmination of a 16-month journey. During last year's 888poker LIVE Main Event in Madrid, he navigated his way to heads-up play only to fall just short against Ian Simpson.

This time around, Murciano left absolutely nothing to chance. Primarily an online professional who uses live events as a hobby to disconnect from the digital grind, Murciano entered the nine-handed final table in pole position with a massive chip lead. He systematically dismantled his opponents, riding a wave of perfectly timed aggression and favorable runouts. 

It means a lot to win and take that personal revenge. It felt like a script. Every time I tried to bluff, the other players folded. When I had good hands, they called.

The €263,424 prize pool ensured that the final table combatants were playing for serious stakes, but Murciano made it a one-sided affair.

After winning a massive pot to eliminate Michael Falcon in fifth place, Murciano absorbed over 80 percent of the total chips in play. He made quick work of Pol Silva in fourth and 888poker streamer Jesus Ramos in third, setting up a brief heads-up match against fellow Spaniard German Zafra.
