If four cards in Omaha weren’t causing enough mischief, Stake Poker has gone and added a fifth. The 5-Card Pot-Limit Omaha (PLO5) format is now officially live on its US sweepstakes platform — and things are about to get swingy.

For those keeping track, PLO5 isn’t some poker newcomer. Players still use two of their hole cards and three from the board. That said, with five hole cards to choose from, the number of potential hand combinations goes through the roof. More draws. More busted flushes. More reasons to question that river call.
This addition makes Stake just the second sweepstakes poker site in the US to roll out the PLO5 format, which is a little strange, since it's long been a favorite among seasoned international grinders. 

“It’s fast, it’s fun, and it’s not for the faint of heart,” said a Stake Poker rep. “Bringing PLO5 into the US sweepstakes scene is a natural next step.”

This move also reflects a slow-but-steady shift in online poker. Platforms that once offered Hold’em and nothing else are beginning to experiment. The introduction of PLO5 in the US marks a small but significant evolution — especially for players who enjoy Omaha’s brand of calculated chaos.
