  • Benjamin Chen took the C$2,200 Mega Stack High Roller title, while Tomas Larivee Magni claimed victory in the C$300 Mega Stack with over 1,000 entries.
  • Compared to the 2025 edition, the 2026 Main Event saw fewer entries, but overall festival participation remained robust, shifting toward lower buy-ins.
Samuel Chartier Wins MSPT Canadian Poker Championship

Samuel Chartier didn't enter the final day of the MSPT Canadian Poker Championship anywhere near the top of the chip counts and yet, he left it with every chip in play.

The Montreal poker pro topped an 809-entry C$1,150 Main Event at Playground in Kahnawake to earn C$175,000, bringing the second edition of the Canadian Poker Championship to a close on October 12.

Chartier Comes From Behind to Win the Main Event

Four starting flights were needed to reduce the Main Event to its final 91 players.

Pascal Gregoire led that group with 1,183,000 chips, narrowly ahead of Guillaume Charbonneau's 1,172,000. Chartier was well down the standings with 271,000 after advancing through Day 1B.

The field had created or, more accurately, was playing for, the tournament's C$1 million guaranteed prize pool, with C$175,000 waiting for the winner and C$124,000 for second place. Chartier ultimately claimed the top prize, ahead of Adil Morkos and Mohamed Kechiche.

Chartier already has more than US$3.4 million in recorded live earnings, with results stretching back almost two decades. He had also been active at Playground throughout 2026, including a win in the C$2,500 Mega Stack High Roller during July's Summer Million.

Even during this particular MSPT festival, the Main Event was not his only final table.

Benjamin Chen Wins the High Roller

Chartier finished seventh in the C$2,200 Mega Stack High Roller for C$6,500 before turning his attention to the Main Event.

The title there went to Benjamin Chen, who defeated a 79-entry field to collect C$50,000. Santiago Plante took C$32,000 for second and Boyd Donald O'Neill earned C$21,000 in third.

The High Roller was one of the festival's more compact fields, but its top-heavy buy-in made it one of the most valuable titles outside the Main Event.

C$300 Mega Stack Draws More Than 1,000 Entries

The biggest field of the festival actually arrived right at the beginning.

Event #1, the C$300 Mega Stack, attracted 1,080 entries. Tomas Larivee Magni eventually emerged from that field with the title and C$42,000, beating Marie-Josee Duguay heads-up. Duguay earned C$25,500, while Tariq Javed finished third for C$18,900.

The contrast between the opener and the Main Event is worth noting. The lower-priced Mega Stack passed the four-figure entry mark, while the C$1,150 championship event finished at 809 entries.

How 2026 Compared With the First Championship

There is now just enough history to start drawing a few comparisons.

The inaugural MSPT Canadian Poker Championship in 2025 drew 1,057 Main Event entries and generated a C$1.055 million prize pool. Jinrong Zhang won the title after a three-handed deal, eventually taking C$165,000 ahead of Sebastien Proulx and Lyndon Webster.

In comparsion, the 2026 Main Event finished with 248 fewer entries.

The C$1 million guarantee remained intact, while the opening C$300 event attracted more entries than the Main Event itself. Playground still produced plenty of tournament traffic; it was simply more concentrated at the lower buy-in end of the schedule this time around.

And while Zhang became MSPT's first international Main Event champion in 2025, Chartier now becomes the name attached to chapter two.

For a tour that only crossed into Canada for the first time last year, there is already a small line of Canadian Poker Championship history beginning to form.
