From Cyprus to Rozvadov: Four Live Poker Winners Worth Knowing This Week

Several European festivals have reached the business end at almost the same time, producing everything from career-best scores to enormous low-buy-in fields.

The Mediterranean Poker Party in Cyprus and the new King’s Million European Poker Championship in Rozvadov are still running, but both have already crowned headline winners. Add fresh Main Event titles from Manchester and Malta, and there has been no shortage of results to follow this week.

The Mediterranean Poker Party opened with one of its biggest guarantees immediately in play.

The festival produced another notable result two days later when Boris Smuskevicius won the $3,500 Merit Poker Cup. The Lithuanian topped 418 entries for a career-best $217,000, more than five times his previous largest live score.

The $5,400 Mediterranean Poker Party Main Event is now underway with a $5 million guarantee, meaning the festival’s biggest result is still to come.

King’s Resort Rozvadov has already produced one of the week’s biggest fields.

Gavrila took control during the final day and eliminated each of his final four opponents. Heads-up ended when his nine-five cracked the ace-king of Israel’s “Mystery Kid.”

The EPC continues through October 6, with the €1,150 Super Main Event and its €5 million guarantee still ahead.

Ian Simpson managed to turn one Manchester festival into two trophies.

The Festival Malta also wrapped with a new attendance high.

Norway’s Terje Bengtsen won the €550 Main Event for €65,001, overcoming Mehdi Yazdanpanah heads-up after beginning the final day only 12th of the remaining 16 players.

The tournament drew 804 entries, comfortably beating the previous Malta record.
