WPT Season 23 Player of the Year
Harvey Castro has officially secured the World Poker Tour (WPT) Season 23 Player of the Year title. The 23-year-old former Southern Methodist University soccer player finished the season with 1,850 points, outperforming established veterans and major title winners alike.

Castro’s victory is impressive because of his years, yes but it also shows you can accumulate points without a Main Tour title. Instead of lifiting trophies during the 23' Season, Castro built his lead on a series of deep runs, including a runner-up finish at WPT Rolling Thunder and a victory at the WPT Prime Lodge Championship.

Behind the Numbers: A Consistent 2025 Campaign

Castro’s season foundation was laid early in March 2025 at Thunder Valley, where he finished second in the WPT Rolling Thunder Main Event for $193,600. He followed this in October by winning the WPT Prime Lodge Championship in Texas, the first-ever WPT event in the state, taking home $225,020 after navigating a field of 1,648 entries.

While Schuyler Thornton earned the largest single payout of the year with a $2.2 million win at the WPT World Championship, the POY scoring system favored Castro’s higher volume of final table appearances. In addition to his WPT results, Castro found success on the PokerGO Tour and the WSOP Circuit, marking 2025 as his professional breakthrough.
