Jason Wheeler has added one of the biggest titles of his career after winning the €1,650 PokerStars Open Main Event in Barcelona, outlasting a huge field of 4,333 entries to collect €731,000.

What is PokerStars Open?

The PokerStars Open is PokerStars’ live poker tour, launched in 2025 to bring several of its established regional circuits under one banner.
It combines elements of the Estrellas Poker Tour, France Poker Series, UK and Ireland Poker Tour and Eureka Poker Tour, with festivals staged at major poker destinations across Europe and beyond.

Most stops feature an accessible Main Event alongside a full schedule of side events, while PokerStars Open tournaments also form part of selected EPT festivals.

The tournament, played as part of EPT Barcelona at Casino Barcelona, generated a prize pool of €6,239,520, with a buy-in of $1,600.

The victory represents Wheeler's biggest recorded live tournament cash, surpassing the €570,000 he earned when finishing second to Kalidou Sow in Prague in 2017.
For a player who has been travelling the live circuit for around two decades, it was another major addition to an already extensive resume. Wheeler has more than $6 million in recorded tournament winnings and won his first WSOP bracelet in 2021.

Ivarsson falls just short of Barcelona treble

Wheeler's final opponent was Sweden's Alexander Ivarsson, who had already enjoyed an exceptional EPT Barcelona.
Ivarsson had previously won both the PokerStars Open Cup and the PokerStars Open High Roller during the festival. Victory in the Main Event would therefore have completed a remarkable three title run in Barcelona.
The Swede started heads up with a slight chip advantage, but the match turned immediately. Wheeler doubled through Ivarsson on the opening hand of heads up play and moved into control.
Ivarsson managed to double back several times and keep the match alive, but Wheeler eventually found the hand that finished it.

On a Q4877board, Wheeler held 65
for a straight. Ivarsson moved all in on the river holding AQand Wheeler
made the call to secure the title and the €731,000 first prize. Ivarsson collected €457,000 as runner up.

Feng cannot convert final table chip lead

The final table also featured Han Feng, whose extraordinary 2026 continued after his fifth place finish in the WSOP Main Event earlier this summer.
Feng entered the official eight player final table as chip leader with 33.3 million, ahead of Grégoire Jarry and Wheeler.
His bid for another huge title ended in sixth place, worth €148,610.
Brazilian standout Felipe Boianovsky was the first player eliminated from the official final table, while Darko Svesko eventually took third for €326,200 after Ivarsson and Wheeler reached heads up.
